The role of Stat3beta in the development of atherosclerosis
Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death in industrialized countries. The formation of atheromatous lesions is guided in part by inflammatory mediators and the presence of systemic inflammatory markers is correlated with subsequent occurrence of cardiovascular disease. However, the contribution of systemic inflammation to development of atherosclerosis are not well understood. I would like to investigate the role of Stat3beta, which is essential from normal recovery from systemic inflammation, in the development of atherosclerosis in a mouse model.
